About Me

My name is Lisa Franks, and I’m a teacher in Mequon, Wisconsin. Teaching is an endlessly rewarding experience—being able to share a variety of knowledge with children is something I’ll never tire of. Seeing their pure curiosity and fascination about every single topic is an excellent reminder of how we should all be about life; before adulthood beat us down.

On the other hand, however, teaching can also be quite tiresome and challenging. Teachers are notoriously underpaid. We also spend a rather insane amount of time outside of work grading papers and customizing our classroom (basically pro bono). While teaching is an excellent profession, it’s easy to lose track of your vision if you’re doing nothing but working all the time. This blog aims to provide helpful ways to maintain the balance and achieve your goals as a teacher.

What’s this blog about?

Though many don’t realize it, a teacher holds a great deal of power and responsibility. We can effectively change the entire life of the future adults we’re teaching. Many actions or inactions can have either dire or fantastic consequences. Most adults attribute their passion on a given topic to a dedicated teacher somewhere during their years of education, and the same goes for those who despise a subject (particularly, Math). Having the power to so completely change someone’s path in life is not something to take lightly.

This blog is dedicated to every aspect of being a teacher, from practical advice on building day-planners to philosophical musings about what role we play in the future of humanity. Every article I write draws from a mixture of personal perspective and experience as a teacher, as personal experience is what shapes every human. However, I realize my experience is mostly anecdotal, so I also try to remain objective and draw valid information from scientific studies.
